Investments in Our Community
United Way of Pierce County (UWPC) is dedicated to supporting ALICE (asset-limited, income-constrained while employed) households – individuals and families who work hard but struggle to make ends meet. ALICE households represent the backbone of our communities, often employed in essential jobs yet unable to cover basic living expenses due to the high cost of living. Your donation plays a crucial role in ensuring these hardworking individuals and families can thrive!
UWPC invests in programs and services that empower ALICE households to achieve stability and build a brighter future for themselves and our communities. United Way invests in nonprofits that focus on providing essential services such as job training, financial literacy, housing assistance, and access to healthcare, to help individuals and families break free from the cycle of poverty. By directing resources toward these organizations, UWPC can foster long-term change, empowering ALICE households to achieve greater economic stability and resilience, ultimately contributing to a more equitable society for all.
UWPC’s Priorities:
Supporting a strong foundation of basic needs (food security, shelter/homelessness prevention, physical & mental health services)
Breaking down barriers to self-sufficiency by investing in language/immigration navigation services, employment & training services, and financial education/coaching to help ALICE households gain access to well-paying jobs and career advancement
Community empowerment & advocacy – empowering those with lived experience and advocacy efforts aimed at policy changes that address systemic inequities and that provide support to ALICE families
