June 11, 2021 - Tacoma, Wash. — Each June, United Way brings communities around the
world together to harness the volunteer spirit and improve the conditions in which they live. This
year, they are supporting urgent needs in Pierce County in the continuing response to COVID-
19 for both children and older adults with two care kit options:
- Summer Snack Packs for Kids:
Supplemental snack packs to distribute at summer meal sites to children
- Care Kits for Older Adults:
Kits to support older adults with notes, activities and personal care items to be distributed
through the Meal on Wheels program
There are several ways for you or your organization to participate:
- Organize a Drive for Kit Items
Engage coworkers, neighbors, friends and family in donation drives for needed items
(please be sure they are new, unused items) then assemble kits OR drop any donated
items at United Way.
- Sponsor a Project
Set a goal to provide a certain number of kits, purchase kit items, assemble them at your
location, and then contact United Way for distribution.
- Assemble Kits
Arrange to pick up donated items, assemble them into kits with your company, group or
organization then contact United Way for distribution.
Encourage coworkers, neighbors, friends and family to participate by donating and/or
assembling care kits! Then volunteer to distribute the kits or virtually connect with isolated
seniors. Participation is open to individuals, groups, companies and organizations.

About United Way of Pierce County
United Way of Pierce County has served our community since 1921. Our history is rooted in
partnerships—bringing people from different walks of life together to improve conditions for
children, families and individuals. While that will never change, our role as a community
fundraiser has shifted as the United Way movement has sharpened our focus to solve key
community issues that are preventing people from meeting their full potential. Today we are
leading change by breaking the cycle of poverty in Pierce County. UNITED, WE WILL LIFT
15,000 FAMILIES OUT OF POVERTY BY 2028. Learn more at https://www.uwpc.org/
